Description
The Sanctuary of Sounion, with the astonishing temple of Poseidon, is one of the most important sanctuaries in Attica. The sanctuary of Sounion is first mentioned in the Odyssey, as the place where Menelaus stopped during his return from Troy to bury his helmsman. Apart from its historical importance, Sounion offers one of the most breathtaking views in the Attica region. Late in the afternoon, Sounion is painted by the wonderful colors of the sunset and the landscape of ancient ruins perched above the sea is simply majestic.

The archaeological site of Delphi is located in Phocis province on a plateau on the slope of Mount Parnassus. The ancient Greeks called Delphi «the omphalos (i.e. navel) of the Earth», and this was designated by a large, round, conical stone. Delphi is best known for the oracle at the sanctuary of Apollo, a major temple of the god of prophecy and patron of philosophy and the arts. Today Delphi is a charming village with spectacular scenery and ancient remains within the boundaries of the modern town.

Full-day | Wednesday, Thursday & Saturday | 07:30-19:00 • Duration approx.: 11 hrs
Description

The "golden" city of Mycenae, the city of the legendary king Atreus and Agamemnon, the one that was cited by Homer and excavated by Heinrich Schliemann, is one of the most important and most famous archaeological sites of Greece. The Dorian migration was the outset of the decay of Mycenae, which was destroyed by the people of Argos in the 5th century B.C. and was abandoned in the 10th century. The Mycenaean citadel is still a fascinating place. The rich findings from the area (crowns, wall paintings, the golden mask of “Agamemnon”, and others) are hosted in the Archaeological Museum of Athens. The tour also visits the ancient theater of Epidaurus, famous for its outstanding acoustics and host to excellent performances during the summer. Mycenae and Epidaurus are located approximately 2 hours driving time from Athens.
